Bringing Back House Calls
Reviving a Lost Art
Of all the customs prevalent in old-timey medicine practices, house calls are definitely a favorite (right up there with stirring your potion 9 times or 108 times in a specific direction as you make your medicine…).
Imagine: the 1800s version of you is sitting in your log cabin and you start to feel under the weather. Your head is pounding; your back aches; your stomach is turning. All you want to do is lay in bed and have someone bring you soup and herbal tea.
Back in these days, doctors would come to you. They could assess your condition in the flesh, looking at the pallor of your skin, feeling your pulse, looking at your tongue. These physical clues helped them determine what your body needed to come back into balance.
If you were lucky, they would go outside and grab a handful of an herb they noticed in your garden and put some on the boil. Or maybe, they’d reach into their old-timey doctor bag and pull out a vial of something sure to get you back on your feet.
The house call is a lost art, and, here at The Elderberry, we want to bring it back.
